The toy-terrier Affenpinscher is high-spirited than most other toy breeds. Somehow hyperactive, he tends to tremble when excited. If he perceives an invasion of his space by an approaching stranger or strange dog, he will try to appear intimidating by becoming raucous and ranting.
The Affenpincher is a German breed of small toy dog of the pinscher type. Originally it was developed as a mouser, the Affenpinscher’s distinctive appearance and adorable personality has gained popularity as a great companion among do lovers.

The Affenpincher is a lively toy breed with a short muzzle, round, dark, and sparkling eyes, and a rough coat. It is little and mischievous with an attitude akin to a money. The breed standard describes this compact tiny dog as having self-confidence and bearing itself with a comedic seriousness, despite their small stature. They are by no means delicate.

HISTORY AND ORIGIN

In the 17th century, the Affenpinscher was first used as a ratting and vermin-control dog. They were swiftly elevated from working dogs to companion breeds because of their charming round eyes, rough coat, monkey like appearance, and charming personalities. This allowed them to become more refined, entered the ring, and are still around today.
It has been proposed that the breed originated from a mix between German Pinchers and imported flat-faces oriental breeds, while the exact origins of the breed are unknown. The Griffon Bruxellois was bread with the surviving dogs after the breed was on the verge of extinction during World War II, giving rise to the charming and endearing breed that we are familiar with today.

EXERCISE

Dog exercise should last no more than 30 minutes, although Affenpinschers are energetic canines. When in good health, it can go on lengthy walks and runs, but it can also be readily carried if the activity becomes too strenuous. Affens can be easily amused at home or, in an emergency, in a small yard, but it’s crucial to keep their minds active with games, puzzles, and training.

GROOMING

The Affenpinscher harsh, coarse coat is naturally messy and shaggy in some areas, so regular brushing is all that is needed for dog maintenance. Once a week is plenty. The ears, eye, and fur surrounding the mouth should all receive daily attention because these areas will readily collect food. After every walk, check the paws to make sure there are no foreign objects, trash, or matting between the pads.

PERSONALITY

Affenpinschers are sturdy, yet compact dogs. They have a medium frame and their height and length are about the same size, with females slightly longer than males. This create a square appearance. Affenpinchers, got variety of colors, ranging from black, gray, silver, red, black and tan, and even beige. The Affenpinsher are curious and funny, bold and outgoing. Very intelligent and courageous, making him a great watch dog.
As an averagely active dog, the Affenpinscher needs plenty of indoors interaction and playtime, including outdoors walk and engagements. They are easy going with other pets and friendly too. They don’t do well with homes that have rodents like hamster and gerbils as pets. This pets don’t like been hugged, squeezed or chased. As such, he is not the best dog breed for families with young children.

DIET AND NUTRITION

Ensure fresh water is always accessible to your dog. Always feed a quality, nutritious and balanced canine diet. Most owners feed two measured meal per day. But it’s best advised you visit your nutritionist for best food and routine, or better still your vet. Gaining extra pound can be significant for a jolly little fellow like an Affenpinscher.

HEALTH CARE

Responsible dog breeders screen for certain health conditions before adoption, however, these diseases may include luxating patella, hip dysplasia, heart and vision problems. Same as other breeds with short faces that experience trouble breathing in hot weather, Affens is not exempted from this, so, it’s very important to prevent them from getting overheated.
